Bootstrap components

Bootstrap simplifies frontend web development by providing uniform layout defaults. To a certain extent, these defaults are customizable and can be extended with new features.

Further adjustments can be made via the central configuration stylesheet. Among other things, the font type, size and color as well as the structure of the grid layout are defined in it. Further changes are possible by overriding the Sass declarations.

From version 2, Bootstrap can also be configured via a special “Customize” option. The developer selects the desired components via a form and, if necessary, adjusts the values of the options to his needs. A package is then generated that contains the fully compiled CSS stylesheet.

The central components of Bootstrap are the layout components, as they affect the entire web page. The basic layout component is called “container” because all elements of the page are placed inside it. Developers can choose between a fixed-width container and a dynamic (“fluid”) width container.

While the latter always fills the width of the web page, the former uses one of four predefined fixed widths, responsively depending on the size of the screen on which the page is displayed. Once a container is set up, other Bootstrap layout components implement a CSS grid layout with rows and columns and bootstrap justify content.
